Rep. Waxman Statement on Court of Appeals Decision Upholding EPA’s Carbon Pollution Rules and Scientific Findings on Climate Change

Jun 26, 2012

Today Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman released the following statement on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling upholding the Environmental Protection Agency’s actions relating to carbon pollution and climate change:

“Today’s decision is a resounding victory for science.  The court upheld EPA’s legal reasoning as ‘unambiguously correct’ and its scientific findings as based upon an ‘ocean of evidence.’  As the court put it, ‘EPA is not required to re-prove the existence of the atom every time it approaches a scientific question.’

“Today’s ruling is a message to Congress that it’s time to stop denying science.  Extreme events like the wildfires in Colorado and the floods in Florida are going to get worse unless the Republican-controlled Congress changes course soon.”
