Rep. Waxman Releases Fact Sheet on Republicans’ Plan to Undermine Patients’ Bill of Rights

Today Rep. Henry A. Waxman unveiled a fact sheet detailing the effect of draft legislation released by Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans. The legislation would undermine the patients’ bill of other critical consumer protections included in the Affordable Care Act for the majority of Americans with private health insurance.

The Republican bill rolls back critical consumer protections for any health plan that existed the day that the ACA passed. It designates these plans as grandfathered health plans and forever exempts them from having to meet a host of important insurance reforms no matter how much the plan cuts benefits or increases premiums over time.
