House Passes CALM Act, Considers Local Community Radio Act
Dec 15, 2009
Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1084, the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act (CALM Act). The bill will require the Federal Communications Commission to prescribe a standard to preclude commercials from being broadcast at louder volumes than the program material they accompany.
The House also considered H.R.1147, Local Community Radio Act of 2009, which would implement the recommendations of the Federal Communications Commission report to the Congress regarding low-power FM service. A vote on the legislation was postponed.
